What are the symptoms of interstitial cystitis?

Interstitial Cystitis is a painful condition that usually consist of urinary pain and chronic bladder pain. Symptoms can be aggravated by a spicy food diet. Urinary frequency and burning and pain in the urethra are almost always present. People with interstitial cystititis (IC) tend to report a history of urinary tract infections and bladder infections. In most cases, interstitial cystitis is a women’s disorder, but roughly 12 % of all cases are men. In interstitial cystitis, the inflammation of the bladder is believed to be the root of the problem.

The gallbladder is a small organ located under the liver. Liver secretes bile which gall bladder then restore for later use. Bile is used by the body to digest fats. It contains cholesterol, bile salts, lecithin and small amounts of some other substances.

Rapid changes of body weight can cause gall bladder problems. It is important to note, that obesity and gall bladder disease are related. Gall bladder problems are most common among women age forty and over who also are overweight and have had children.

As a consequence of inappropriate diet and bad eating habits, more and more people suffer from gall bladder disease these days. Statistics indicate that in the United States alone, around 20 percent of people with ages over 40 suffer from gall bladder disease. The disease also has a high incidence in people with weight problems, people with high blood cholesterol levels and people with gastro-intestinal disorders.

Etiology

Above all, occupational exposure to chemical compounds (among others from the group of aromatic amines) is considered to be the factor leading to falling ill with cancer of the urinary bladder. Smoking tobacco is also mentioned (cancerogenic substances found in tobacco smoke such as nitrosamines, as well as tryptophane metabolites excreted in the urine). An additional risk factor, which may contribute to the development of more aggressive forms of cancer of the urinary bladder is a long exposure to foreign bodies and infections (mainly Schistosoma haematobium, it concerns African and Small Asia countries, as well as medicines - cyclofosphamide) and small pelvis irradiation due to another tumors in that area.

Bladder infections are treated with antibacterial drugs, and the choice of medication and the duration of treatment depend upon the patient’s past medical history and the results of the urine test, which clearly identifies the problem-causing bacteria. The sensitivity test is also useful in helping the physician select the best drug for the condition.

Some of the commonly used drugs to treat regular or uncomplicated bladder infections are: trimethoprim; trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole; amoxicillin; nitrofurantoin and ampicillin. All these drugs are sold under various brand names in the market and are only available with a doctor’s prescription. Self-medication is not advised.

Talking about bladder control likely ranks up there with having a root canal. No one really wants to do it but at times it becomes necessary. It is also something we avoid and ignore until we absolutely have to deal with it. There are several factors hat can lead to bladder control problems. Some we can change and others we can do very little about. However, bladder control problems are quite often treatable.
